ABOUT SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY
Susquehanna
County is situated in the Appalachian Mountains, and is often referred
to as the "Endless Mountains." The scenery consists of
rolling hillsides and beautiful forests. Autumn boasts of colors
beyond imagination. The county remains predominantly agricultural
with approximately 785 farms and over 190,000 acres of farmland.
Sixty-five percent of the forests resources are northern hardwoods.
Susquehanna County has six school districts and three industrial
parks and great potential for growth exists. Most of the flagstone
produced in Pennsylvania comes from Susquehanna County. The county
also attracts an ever increasing number of hunters. Its vast area
of woodland contains many and most of the species of wildlife found
in Northeastern United States. Many lakes in the county lead its
residents and vacationers to find great enjoyment in fishing and
boating. Susquehanna County is rich in history with many historical
points of interest. A few are The Starrucca Viaduct, Lanesboro;
The Susquehanna County Courthouse, Montrose (pictured above); The
Susquehanna County Historical Society, Montrose as well as the Montrose
Fire Hall. Some others include: The Susquehanna County Jail, Montrose;
Nine Partner Monument, Harford; Old Mill Village, New Milford; Birchardville
Schoolhouse; Salt Springs State Park, Franklin Forks; Woodbourne
Forest, Dimock and the Harford Congregational Church, Harford.

From
Route 81 North & South:
Take the New Milford Exit 223 to end of ramp, turn left onto Route
11 south. Follow for approximately 1 mile, turn right onto Route
706 west and follow signs to Montrose (approximately 8 miles).Proceed
into town until you come to a stoplight. At light, turn left onto
Public Ave. You will see the courthouse directly in front of you.
We are located in a yellow building called "Susquehanna County
Offices." Penn State Cooperative Extension is located at the
end of the hall.
From
the West:
Take I-80, I-180 and Rt 405 to Hughesville. Follow Rt 118 to Rt
29. Proceed North on 29 to Montrose. At the stop light in Montrose,
go straight ahead on Public Ave to front of the Courthouse. Turn
left and proceed to parking lot in the back of the County Office
Building.It is a yellow building called "Susquehanna County
Offices." Penn State Cooperative Extension is located at the
end of the hall.
